FAQs

“How much tile/floor space does a 6-pen multi-pack cover?”

Based on calculations using the standard tile size of 33 cm x 33 cm, a 6-pen multi-pack should cover a tile/floor space of 20 m². This should comfortably cover most bathrooms, toilets, and so on in the average NZ home (which is generally no more than 200 m²). If you have smaller tiles (and therefore more grout) you may need more pens, and if your tiles are larger you’ll get greater coverage from the pack.

“Are they toxic? Do I need a mask or special equipment to use these pens safely?”

No. The grout pens are non-toxic, and no masks or special equipment is required to use them. Everything you’ll need to restore your grout is within the multi-pack.

“How long does it take to dry once applied?”

It takes between 5 to 10 mins to dry completely.

“Are they waterproof?”

Once dry, yes. They also possess anti-mold properties! Using our pens will help protect the grout underneath by sealing it against moisture and dirt.

“How long will the grout last?”

It depends on how well you have prepared and cleaned the surface of your grout prior to application. The rubberised paint will adhere better to dry surfaces that are clean and clear of dust, dirt or anything else that can prevent it sticking well. Even so, the beauty of our pack is that you can easily touch up areas that you need to later.

“Are the grout pens easy to use?”

Yes. Anyone who can comfortably and steadily hold a pen should be able to use them.

“What can I do if I make a mistake?” (e.g. getting some of the pen residue on the tiles versus the grout)

In order to fix a mistake, you should wipe away the residue before it drys in 5 -10 mins time.

“Does my grouting or tiles require any prior preparation before I can use the pens?”

Ideally you will have cleaned and dried the grout area, and repaired any broken grout with an appropriate filler, but we have applied these pens to bathrooms with no special preparation and achieved outstanding results. The paint is very adhesive and touch-ups are easy to do to keep your grout looking fresh.
